One Odd Day : Doris Fisher :
Jun 26, Jo Oehrlein rated it liked it Shelves: math. A silly story that intentionally conflates "odd" like odd number and "odd" meaning weird or unusual. The boy experiences an odd day where the calendar and clock only have odd numbers, the dog has an odd number of legs, his shirt has an odd number of sleeves, etc. At the very end, we find an even day. Both sound silly, but neither sound fun.

Things are not right and everything has an "odd" number of things such as only having one sock, three sleeves, and his dog having five legs. The next day he wakes up, hoping everything will be EVEN, and back to normal. Things are even But then the doorbell rings - and rings and rings. Each ring of the doorbell brings more friends to share the delicious cookies Ma has made. With the help of Marvelosissimo the Mathematical Magician, the concepts of a million, a billion and a trillion are not quite so intimidating. This book reveals how big a bowl would be needed to hold a million goldfish, or how many years it would take to count to a million.
